Happy Hump Day my friends! Today I’m sharing what I ate yesterday to show you a day in the life of an intuitive eater. I try to follow a balanced, paleo diet 80% of the time. That other 20% is still gluten and dairy free, eating foods I want (instead of foods that follow certain rules or fit certain macros), and eating foods that are worth it. I don’t count calories and if I’m hungry, I eat! I also make sure to drink LOTS of water throughout the day. Take a peek…
Upon Rising (6:30 am): I start every day by taking my vitamins & supplements and drinking a large glass of water.
- Water with lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and cayenne pepper
- Prenatal vitamin, Omega 3s, probiotic, trace minerals
Breakfast (7 am): I like to eat a pretty hearty breakfast (usually eggs), but was rushing to get out the door so I grabbed a few things I could eat in the car. These types of breakfasts don’t hold me over for long but they work when I’m in a pinch.
- Starbucks grande black coffee
Early lunch (10:30 am): I was very hungry so decided to have an early lunch instead of a snack. I reheated some pasta & meatballs leftovers from Monday’s dinner.
- Banza chickpea pasta with Kirkland organic marinara sauce and shredded kale
- Grazed & Enthused’s liver & beef meatballs – (liver is one of the superfoods I feed Max)
- Side salad of raw spinach, Tessamae’s caesar dressing, and Farmhouse Culture kraut
Snack (12 pm): Even though I ate lunch 1.5 hours beforehand, I was hungry after nursing Max so I grabbed a quick snack. I try to eat my fruit with a healthy fat so I stay fuller longer.
- Organic honeycrisp apple with Kirkland organic peanut butter & cinnamon
Snack (4:30 pm): I made a pina colada smoothie that I could drink while I took Max for a walk in the stroller. I usually add a fat to my smoothies but didn’t this afternoon because I didn’t want to get too full before dinner.
- Almond milk
- Vanilla protein
- Shredded coconut
- Frozen pineapple
- Frozen sliced cucumber
Dinner (6 pm): I made a big batch of stew using pork from our Butcher Box that will last us several more meals this week. I try to make our dinner big enough to at least provide leftover’s for the next day’s lunch for both Garrett and I.
- Million Dollar Stew
- Piece of Udi’s GF toast
Dessert (8 pm): I wanted a little something sweet after Max went to bed, so I had two homemade GF cookies leftover from our street’s Christmas cookie swap.
Before bed (10 pm): I finish the day by taking Magnesium supplements before bed.
This is what balance looks like for me. I had more carbs and processed foods this day than I do other days, and I didn’t eat as many veggies this day as I do other days, but I wanted to share this with you because this was just one day. I didn’t follow any super strict rules. I enjoyed the holiday cookies without any guilt. I ate what I was craving – hearty, warm, grounding foods – and I didn’t feel bad about it. I didn’t make myself work out more that day (or the next day) because I ate carbs and dessert. It wasn’t absolutely perfect (whatever that means), but it was still healthy. I ate super, super strict for over 4 years before finding a balance that worked for me and my body.
If you want to see more of these, or more of what I feed Max, let me know!
Ps – I want to put in an unsolicited, not sponsored plug for a program called Finally Free. Check out the details below for their holiday workshop if you want to learn more about intuitive eating.
