Happy Friday! I hope you’re adjusted to daylight savings now and staying warm…every year when the temps drop, I think to myself, “why do I live here?!” But I do love the Midwest and being close to friends and family – lots of fun planned for this weekend! What do you have going on?
Hip hip hooray
I made this pupcake for Axel’s 1st birthday. He wasn’t so sure about it at first (he isn’t allowed to eat any people food, so I think he thought I was tricking him)…but then he scarfed it down! All you need is an apple and peanut butter, plus whatever you want for frosting (I used pumpkin puree).
One of my best friends just started volunteering for Best Buddies and can’t say enough good things about it. If you’re looking to volunteer with an organization that is highly rewarding, flexible, and beneficial to society, Best Buddies may be the perfect fit. Best Buddies seeks to bridge the gap between those with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by matching you with someone who has IDD in your community and fostering a one-on-one friendship. Friendships are formed at the middle school, high school, college, and now, adult level with their newer Citizens program. Currently only available in Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Ozaukee county, the Citizens program pairs local adults together and there are buddies waiting to be paired with new friends (like you!) today! For more information you can visit bestbuddies.org.
Soul Work for Moms Podcast
I’m obsessed with podcasts – I feel like they are the Millennial version of AM radio. I listened to the Increase Parenting Satisfaction w/Ignore It! podcast episode by Soul Work for Moms during one of my workouts this week and added another book to my reading list:Ignore It!: How Selectively Looking the Other Way Can Decrease Behavioral Problems and Increase Parenting Satisfaction. Does anyone else read/listen to these parenting articles and think this could apply to adults, too?! This was my first time listening to that podcast but it seems pretty cool – they have journaling worksheets on their website that have thought provoking questions to go along with each of their podcast episodes.
Artificial Fireplace with Heater
I had to break out our fake fireplace for the freezing temps this week. I love our old house but really wish it had a functioning fireplace! If you live in apartment or house without a real fireplace, grab one of these bad boys – all you have to do it plug it in to an outlet and it lights up and acts as a space heater.
